INHS Kasturi is named after MUSK Deer(Moschus Crysogaster), popularly known as Kasturi Mrig, a fast vanishing animal from its geographical epicenter of Himalayas. Its Musk Gland is situated beneath the skin of the abdomen near the naval. Musk is fragrant substance which is secreted in the gland my a male Musk Deer. Ayurvedic and Unani system of medicine rate Musk both as Stimulant and a sedative.It is also used in the preparation of medicines to treat Asthma, epilepsy, hysteria and other nervous disorder. Research have shown that Musk is effective as a general stimulant for the heart and central nervous system.
