Training Year

The training year in the Indian Navy is from 01 July to 30 June.

Training Requirements

Friendly foreign governments desirous of availing training facilities with the Indian Navy (IN) are advised to forward the training requirements to the Government of India (GoI), Ministry of External Affairs through diplomatic channels by 15th September of the year preceding the training year. Requests for pre/post course attachments may also be included in the demand indicating specific requirements.

Allocation of Vacancies

The details of vacancies allotted are notified to the foreign governments through diplomatic channels by the end of February. The acceptance of vacancies is to be intimated to the Ministry of External Affairs. In case a vacancy is not being availed, intimation to the effect is to be sent at least two months prior to the commencement of the course.

Pre-Course Requisites and Standard of Trainees

The pre-course qualifications required for admission to various courses are contained in the section on courses. It is in the interest of parent countries to ensure that the selected candidates, possess the requisite qualifications. Training in all the courses is imparted in English. Proficiency in English must therefore be attained in the parent country prior to sending a trainee to India.

Training Schemes

Courses are allotted by GoI to foreign trainees under one of the following schemes:-

ITEC Category IThe Indian Government provides free training, to and fro air fare, lodging, messing (except in case of officers where messing charges are required to be paid by the individuals) and transportation facilities connected with training in India. In addition, the trainees are paid Living Allowances which currently are as follows :-

Rs. 25,000 / month
Cadets/sailors -
Rs. 15,000 / month
