Controller of Warship Production & Acquisition (CWP&A)

Vice Admiral SR Sarma, AVSM VSM assumed charge as the Controller of Warship Production & Acquisition on 01 December 2019. He joined the Electrical Branch of the Indian Navy on 31 March 1983. During his illustrious career in the Indian Navy, the Admiral has served onboard IN ships Vindhyagiri, Rana, Krishna and Mysore in various capacities. He has served in the Naval Dockyards at Vizag and Mumbai and at Naval Headquarters, New Delhi, wherein he has handled Weapon issues in the Materiel branch and also a tenure at WESEE. He is an alumni of IISc Bengaluru.

As a Flag Officer, the Admiral has served as the Assistant Chief of Materiel (IT & Systems) in Naval Headquarters, as the Admiral Superintendent Dockyard of Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, CSO (Tech)/ ENC, as the Director General Naval Projects at Vishakhapatnam and as PDATVP at HQ Aakaansha prior to taking over the present appointment. The Admiral has undergone Naval Higher Command Course.

The Admiral is a recipient of Ati Vishisht Seva Medal & Vishisht Seva Medal for his distinguished service. He is also a recipient of Lt VK Jain Gold Medal in 1994.

As Controller of Warship Production & Acquisition, the Flag Officer is in charge of all aspects related to construction and acquisition of warships and submarines for the Indian Navy, both from Indian as well as foreign shipyard.

He is married to Mrs Shyamala Sarma and together they have one son.
