Quality Assurance

Naval equipment/ machinery is required to be manufactured to stringent quality standards stipulated in the governing specifications due to space limitations on the ship, difficulties of maintenance, general inter-changeability requirements for repair/ replacement, very exacting performance criteria, shock and vibration problems encountered at sea etc. These requirements call for a thorough quality control/ assurance at all stages of manufacture and an adequate monitoring of production/ inspection.

Quality Assurance (QA) is a process of verifying or determining whether products or services meet or exceed customer expectations. QA is a process driven approach with specific steps to help define and attain goals. A broad representation of the process is depicted in Figure below. The details of QA organisation can be accessed at www.dgqadefence.gov.in . QA cover for various development orders is either by DQA(WP)/DQA(N) or third party by classification society (like IRS/LRS etc) as specified in the RFP.
