SENIOR EDUCATION OFFICER

Commander Shobhit Khanna, was commissioned into the Education branch of Indian Navy on 06 Jul 09. The officer is post graduate in ‘Thermal Engineering’ from IIT, Chennai with specialization in alternative fuels for IC engines. The officer has served in various capacities as Instructor at INS Shivaji, Deputy Registrar (University Cell) at INA, OiC (University and Results) for commissioning of B.Tech at NDA and Education Officer at INS India. The Officer has undergone prestigious Defence Services Technical Staff Course (DSTSC) at MILIT,Pune. The officer has taken over the duties of Senior Education Officer on 10 Jun 23.

The Education Department of Shivaji teaches the basics of technical education to young sailor trainees through its School of Basic Sciences (SBS). The school is manned by the Education branch officers where transforming pedagogy to andragogy and tapping the true potential of machine based and skill-based learning is emphasized. The school has a Basic Sciences Laboratory that is put to effective use to strengthen the scientific foundation of young trainees and prepare them for technology intensive curriculum in the later part of their course. The Education Department also caters for the pre-primary education of wards of Naval personnel in station through the Little Angels playschool and Naval Kindergarten School. It is also mandated with the onerous task of Recruitment Exams for Senior Secondary Recruits as per the schedule promulgated by IHQ MoD(N)/DMPR. The Ship’s Reference Library administered by the department is equipped with more than 25,000 books and journals for the Shivaji populace to pour over.
