United States of America Naval Midshipmen Visits Indian Naval Academy
A delegation of two midshipmen, Midshipman Svetla Walsh and Midshipman Tyler Beck of United States Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, Maryland visited Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala from 11-17 March 2018.

The aim of the visit was to build bridges of friendship between the two navies and exchange best practices. They were given an insight into the ab-initio training of Naval Officers and the training infrastructure at INA. The visit also gave INA staff an opportunity to learn and understand the training processes and philosophy that the United States Naval Academy follows.

The USNA Midshipmen were given ample opportunities to not only understand the functionality of INA, but to form bonds of friendship with INA Cadets. Towards this end, they were accommodated in the Cadets Squadron, dined and played with the INA Cadets and also attended classes in the company of their INA counterparts. They were also exposed to ‘God’s Own Country’, Kerala through visits to places of historical and cultural interest in and around INA.
Naval cooperation between India and United States of America epitomises the strong and resilient relationship between the two democracies encompassing a wide span which includes port calls, operational interactions, training visits along with capacity building and capability augmentation initiatives. The visit of USNA Midshipmen closely follows the hard fought victory of the US Naval Academy team in the eighth edition of ‘Admirals Cup’ Sailing Regatta held at Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala from 03rd to 07th December 2017 and the successful conclusion of the 21st edition of Indo-US-Japan Naval exercise, MALABAR-17 which demonstrated the joint commitment of the nations to address common maritime challenges across the spectrum of operations.

The visit of USNA Midshipmen was a mutually satisfying and enriching experience for the young officers of both Navies and reaffirmed the universal truth that Oceans unite all Nations. The United States Naval Academy Midshipmen would depart Indian Naval Academy today, Saturday, 17 March 2018.
