SNC Commences Training of Coastal Police Personnel of Kerala

With an aim of strengthening the newly raised Coastal police stations of Kerala, the Southern Naval Command commenced a one month ‘On the Job Training Capsule’ for 30 personnel of Coastal Police Kerala, from 30 April 2018 to 30 May 2018. The training is being carried out by the Sagar Prahari Bal at Naval Base, Kochi, under the aegis of the Naval Officer-in-Charge, Kerala.

During the training, the coastal police personnel will be trained on survival at sea, boat handling and maintenance onboard Fast Interceptor Craft of the Indian Navy, firing in harbour and at sea, boarding exercises to investigate other vessels, fire-fighting, patrolling at sea, assistance to fishing boats, navigational safety, Rules of Engagement and Force Protection Measures, Rescue of Life at sea as well as First Aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation.

The capsule includes both lectures as well as practical training, with focus on the practical aspects of coastal security so as to enable these personnel to gain requisite experience and skills and be confident to handle emergencies at sea related to coastal security, survival at sea and maritime rescue operations. These personnel will also be embarked onboard Indian Naval warships proceeding to sea for familiarisation.

This is a maiden course and subsequent training capsules will also be undertaken on monthly basis, with active participation and coordination between the Indian Navy and the Coastal Police.
