HADR Assistance by 1st Training Squadron to Indonesia

Consequent to the high-intensity earthquake and the tsunami, which devastated parts of Sulawesi Island in Indonesia, Indian Naval Ships Tir, Sujata and Shardul of the 1st Training Squadron were diverted from Singapore to Palu, Indonesia on 02 October 2018 for undertaking Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations in coordination with Indonesian authorities. The ships are scheduled to reach Palu on 06 October 2018 to provide urgently required relief and medical assistance. The ships had embarked HADR 'bricks' (relief material, MREs, etc) on departure from Kochi as a standard operating procedure. In addition, at Singapore, the ships embarked 30,000 litres of bottled drinking water, 1,500 litres of juice tetrapacks, 6,000 litres of milk, 700 kg of biscuits and about 20 tents, which along with the provisions available onboard will be used to set up a community kitchen ashore. The ships are also carrying a large quantity of medicines and the three medical officers onboard will set up a medical camp to attend to the victims of the earthquake and tsunami.
