Over 15000 Runners Participate in Third Indianoil-WNC Navy Half Marathon, Mumbai

As the Western Naval Command commemorates 50 glorious years, the third edition of the Indian Oil WNC Navy Half Marathon was held on 18 November 2018 at MMRDA R2 grounds, BKC, Mumbai with elan. The event is one of the many outreach activities as part of the Navy Day celebrations. This year an unprecedented 15,000 runners participated in the coveted half marathon from Mumbai and other parts of the country, furthering the Indian Navy's connect with the citizens.

The event which was conducted in Four categories – Aircraft Carrier Run (21.1 Kms), Destroyer Run (10 Kms), Frigate Run (5 Kms timed) and Dream Run (5 Kms non-timed) was flagged-off by Vice Admiral Girish Luthra,  Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command.

Govind Singh won the men’s 21.1 Km run and Sabina Rai won the women’s 21.1 Km run. In the 10 Km event, Sahilesh Ganloda won the men’s category while Aarti Deshmukh triumphed in the women’s race. Vice Admiral Girish Luthra felicitated the winners in various categories while thanking all the participants for the overwhelming response and saluted the spirit of the runners who participated from Mumbai and other parts of the country as well for turning-up in such large numbers. The Admiral particularly noted that “The increased participation across all age categories is a clear indication of the ever growing association between Mumbaikars and the Men & Women in White".
