Maiden Porbandar Half Marathon Co-Powered by Indian Navy Held at Porbandar
The first ever Porbandar Half Marathon 'Powered by Indian Navy' was conducted on 18 November 2018 by the Shri Ram Sea Swimming Club. Gujarat Daman and Diu (GD&D) Naval Area were the main coordinators of tye event, providing active guidance in planning, support and conduct. The run comprised the main event of 21 km, a 10 km Fitness Run, a 5 km Fun Run and a 2 km Kids Run. About 2,200 runners from all over Gujarat and 200 naval personnel and families participated across all categories.
The runs were flagged off by Rear Admiral Sanjay Roye, FOGNA along with other prominent local dignitaries. Hav Lakshman Singh of Indian Army won the men 'Half Marathon while Ms Monika M Nagpure won in the women' category.
The event served as an excellent outreach effort by the newly established naval area to connect with the local populace and witnessed spirited participation from all age groups from 7 to 89 years of age, including ladies, children, elderly and the differently abled from in and around Porbandar.
