International Coastal Cleanup Day

International Coastal Cleanup Day

The Southern Naval Command observed International Coastal Cleanup Day on 19 Sep 20. Pursuant to the global campaign to keep our coastline clean, this year's efforts were themed on ‘Achieving a trash free coastline’.

To mark the occasion, a Shramdaan and channel cleanup drive  was conducted along the Venduruthy Channel and areas adjoining the beach. Naval personnel and their family members actively took part in the ongoing effort by removing litter, debris and non-biodegradable waste. Similar efforts were also undertaken at Fort Kochi, Ezhimala, Malad (Mumbai), Chilka, Lonavala, Goa and Jamnagar (Gujarat).

Navy Wives Welfare Association (NWWA) took the initiative in spreading the message by educating young children through online poster making competitions. Being a naval domain, an awareness lecture was conducted at all units on marine pollution and its severity on the prevailing eco-system.
