Circumnavigation (SAGARPARIKRAMA)

100 000 NM Celebrations. The 6th anniversary and 100,000 nm celebration of Mhadei was held on 14 Feb 15 at Goa. Honourable Raksha Mantri was the Chief Guest for the felicitation ceremony. The Chief of Naval Staff and other dignitaries along with ex-CNSs were also present during the occasion.

Sagar Parikrama-III

The progress of activities for conduct of SP III are as follows:-

  • Three women officers shortlisted as Skipper/ Skipper desig for SP-III are presently undergoing dinghy sailing training at INWTC Mumbai. These officers would thereafter proceed to Kochi to undergo abridged courses in Navigation, Seamanship, Communication, Met from 08 Jun to 29 Aug 15.
  • Screening of Volunteers. Ten Woman officers underwent screening for crew of Madhei at Goa from 27 Apr to 03 May 15. These officers would be deputed to sail onboard Mhadei for longer sorties from 01 Sep 15 along with the permanent crew.

Sagar Parikrama

 

The Indian Navy, as the instrument of a resurgent maritime India, proposed and launched project 'Sagar Parikrama'. The aim of the project was to build a suitable boat and undertake a solo circumnavigation under sail. Commander Dilip Donde, was appointed the Skipper of the yacht to undertake the circumnavigation and Lt Cdr Abhlish Tomy was the standby officer. Yacht ‘Mhadei’ for Project Sagar Parikrama was delivered to the Navy at the builder’s yard (M/s Aquarius Fibreglass) at Goa on 12 Feb 09. Since launch, the yacht had done almost 6500 nm in training sorties to Sri Lanka & Mauritius.
