Search and Rescue Operation for the Missing ONGC Helicopter Crew

Based on information on a Pawan Hans helicopter missing on 13 Jan 18, Indian Navy had launched Search and Rescue (SAR) operations in coordination with the Coast Guard and ONGC. Five Indian Naval Ships (Makar, Tarasa, Teg, ISV T11 and ISV T45), one Dornier aircraft, one P8I aircraft and two Seaking helicopters were deployed for the SAR operations. INS Makar, a hydrographic survey ship, undertook search using her Side Scan Sonar (SSS) and helped in location of sunken wreckage. Makar also recovered mortal remains of last two missing personnel. On recovery of all seven bodies, SAR operations were terminated on 18 Jan 18.
