Rear Admiral AY Sardesai Flag Officer Submarines

Rear Admiral AY Sardesai is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (Khadakwasla), DSSC (Wellington) and JMSDF College (Tokyo). He was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 Jan 1990. He joined the submarine arm in 1993 and has specialised in Navigation and Direction.

In his service spanning over 30 years, the Admiral has served in various submarine billets covering Operational, Training and Staff appointments. Amongst his major afloat appointments onboard submarines, the Admiral has served onboard three Foxtrot class and five Sindhughosh class submarines.

The Admiral’s command tenures include Commanding Officer of missile equipped INS Sindhukesari, stealth frigate INS Teg and as Commodore Commanding Submarines (East) & Commanding Officer INS Virbahu. In his training/ staff appointments the Admiral has been at the helm of the Submarine School, the Acquisition Directorate for Nuclear submarines and the Acquisition Directorate for Conventional submarines.

RAdm AY Sardesai assumed the duties of Flag Officer Submarines on 06 Feb 20.
