10th International Day of Yoga Celebrated at Western Naval Command

On the occasion of 10th International Day of Yoga 2024 IDY 2024, multiple Yoga camps were organized throughout WNC with the theme 'Yoga for Self and Society' at Mumbai, Gujarat, Goa and Karnataka on 21 June 2024. Over 9000 naval personnel, defence civilians and family members participated in these camps. In addition to these camps, Yoga activities were also held onboard naval ships and submarines deployed on high seas and across the oceans in foreign ports. Special Yoga sessions were organized for the pupils of NCSs across the Command to inculcate the essence of yoga among the younger generation. A high level of spirit and enthusiasm was witnessed in all these activities, highlighting several benefits of yoga. In the run up to the finale events on 21 June 2024, prominent yoga institutes such as the Art of Living foundation, Bharat Swabhiman Trust and Mahila Patanjali Yog Samiti held Yoga workshops for naval personnel and their families at various locations in South Mumbai including Naval Dockyard, residential areas and Marine Drive. Other associated activities held in connection with IDY-2024 included a seminar, lectures, quizzes, essay and photography competitions conducted by various units to promote awareness on Yoga. Prominent naval buildings also were illuminated on the eve of IDY-2024 to celebrate the occasion. Physical fitness and sports remain a cornerstone of life in Indian Navy. Yoga forms an integral part of the physical fitness activities practiced onboard Naval ships and units.
