35th Naval Higher Command Course Commences at Naval War College, Goa

35th NHCC was inaugurated by Admiral R Hari Kumar CNS on 01 Aug 2022. Addressing via virtual mode, CNS acknowledged the efforts of NWC , Goa, for keeping Professional Military Education programme in consonance with 21st century National Security Challenges and exhorted course participants to utilise the coming year to expand their professional knowledge and personal experience. CNS also emphasised on the requirement of critical thinking, core professional reading and quality research. The 40 week flagship professional military education programme of Indian Navy, conducted annually at the NWC, focusses on National Security , Strategy, Maritime , Joint Operations, Technology and Transformation. Rear Admiral Rajesh Dhankhar, Commandant, NWC, welcomed the course participants and alluded to various innovative concepts such as blended learning, flipped learning, Socratic and Harkness method etc being utilized in the PME curriculum to develop knowledge, skill and understanding of the course members. The event was attended by Admiral Arun Prakash (Retd) and Admiral Karambir Singh (Retd). A small ceremony was also conducted to mark the handing over of the Distinguished Chair from Admiral Arun Prakash (Retd) to Admiral Karambir Singh (Retd). Prof Manjiri Kamat, Associate Dean, Department of Humanities, University of Mumbai delivered the Inaugural address. NHCC-35 course participants includes 27 Captains from Indian Navy, four Colonels from Indian Army, four Group Captains from Indian Air Force and one Commandant from Indian Coast Guard. The course curriculum aims to invigorate intellectual pursuit through a rigorous regime of research work and critical thinking, for honing problem-solving skills related to maritime and national security issues. To enhance Joint manship, the officers also undergo a five week Joint Operations Capsule at Army War College, Mhow. Eligible course participants are awarded Master of Arts (Honours) Degree in 'Defence and Strategic Studies' from the University of Mumbai, on completion of the course.
