The 61st National Maritime Day Celebrations were organised by DG Shipping on 05 April 2024 at the Yashwantrao Chavan Centre, Nariman Point, Mumbai.

Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, COS, WNC was the Chief Guest at the ceremony.

The Admiral was received by a Guard of Honour by the cadets of the Maritime Training Institute and the Shipping Corporation of India SCI. He presented the prestigious Sagar Samman Varuna and Excellence Awards and Certificates of Recognition to Outstanding Maritime Training Institutes at the event.

In his Address to the audience, the Chief Guest highlighted the symbiotic and collaborative relationship between the Indian Navy and the Merchant Marine in ensuring maritime security and progressing our national and maritime interests.

He complimented the Directorate General of Shipping for being at the forefront of India’s maritime resurgence and thanked all members of the diverse and vibrant seafaring community for their Service to the nation.
