Foundation Stone Laying of T-39 Aircraft Hangar at NAY (Koc)

Vice Admiral AK Chawla, FOCINC, SNC laid the foundation stone for construction of a new state-of-the-art ‘Aircraft Hangar’ at Naval Aircraft Yard, Kochi on 22 September 2021. The new hangar would be constructed as a Green Hangar having minimum ‘Carbon Foot Print’. Towards this, in-built solar power generation facility, rain water harvesting and maximum use of natural light and ventilation has been factored in the design of the new hangar. The new hangar would replace a 1946 vintage structure and would facilitate maintenance requirements for deep level repairs of new generation Naval aircraft being inducted into the Service. The work on this new hangar is likely to be completed by early 2023. Upon completion of the project, ‘GRIHA’ rating would be obtained for this hangar, which would be first of its kind for any Armed Forces Aircraft Hangar. The FOCINC, SNC commended the efforts being put in by the Military Engineering Service personnel in bringing up infrastructure at SNC.
