Gamma Camera Spect-CT Facility Inaugurated at INSH Asvini

A state-of-the-art Gamma Camera SPECT-CT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography) was inaugurated at Department of Nuclear Medicine, INHS Asvini in Mumbai by Lt Col Braj Kishore, HoD, Nuclear Medicine in presence of Vice Admiral Ajit Kumar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Naval Command on 26 Nov 20. Commanding Officer INHS Asvini, Surgeon Rear Admiral Sheila S Mathai, was also present on the occasion.

Gamma Camera SPECT-CT is a hybrid equipment which aids in cancer diagnosis and management at the tertiary care hospital of Indian Navy.

Only a few hospitals in Mumbai city have this advanced facility and the installation of this equipment will boost management of complex cases in Oncology, Cardiology, Nephrology and Neurology using molecular imaging.

During the visit, FOCINC West also took the opportunity to walk-round the Gamma Camera facility, the new Liquid Oxygen plant, Incinerator for Biomedical Waste management and COVID Molecular Laboratory. The Admiral also interacted with some COVID Warriors and praised their efforts in keeping the pandemic at bay.
