Indian Naval Ship Trikand is providing escort for MV Annika, a UN affiliated merchant ship transporting relief material from Berbera (Somaliland) to Mombasa (Kenya) through piracy prone waters. The programme, an initiative of the United Nations, supplies relief and nutrition material to the underprivileged in Africa. The presence of INS Trikand as escort is a deterrent against any assymetric attacks by the pirates operating from the East Coast of Somalia and also underlines the Indian Navy commitment towards Maritime Security in the Indian Ocean Region.
