METOC Seminar 'Meghayan-24' was Conducted by SNOM and INMAC at SNC on 28 March 2024

World Meteoro logical Day is commemorated every year on 23 March. It marks origin of WMO on 23 March 1950 and signifies invaluable contribution of meteorologists. As part of the #WMD, a METOC seminar 'Meghayan-24' was conducted by SNOM and NMAC at SNC on 28 March 2024 on the theme 'At the Frontline of Climate Action' promulgated by WMO for 2024. Inaugural address was delivered by Admiral R Hari Kumar, CNS through virtual mode. CNS highlighted the need for accurate and immediate focus on the pressing challenge of climatechange and collective pursuit of common goal of 'Achieving a Climate Smart Society' under the global framework for climate services of WMO. He reiterated IndianNavy's commitment to adopting long term sustainable policies to address the environmental concerns and integrating climate change considerations in security strategy. While laying importance on reliable METOC support for safe & optimal Naval operations, CNS complimented dedicated efforts and contributions of Naval Met specialists in providing crucial support across all domains. The seminar witnessed presentations by guest speakers Dr. TVS Uday Bhaskar, Scientist G, INCOIS Hyderabad and Dr. Ragavendra Ashit, Scientist 'G', NCMRWF, NewDelhi. Panel discussions were held on various topics of 'Effect of Weather and Climate Change on Naval Operations' by specialist officers highlighting latest techniques adopted by the IN & Indian scientific organisations in providing METOC inputs/forecasts. An indigenous mobile application INDRA (Indian Naval Dynamic Resource Analysis) developed by BISAG, coordinated by DNOM,IN was launched for dissemination of weather information and forecasts for optimal & quick decision making. The seminar served as a platform for sharing knowledge & insights on weather and climate services and way ahead to face challenges of climate change.
