Nausena Purab Peritoneal Dialysis Yojana (NPPDY) was launched by Surgeon Rear Admiral Vivek Hande, at INHS Kalyani, Visakhapatnam on 27 March 2024 to provide Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) to patients suffering from Kidney diseases as part of the World Kidney Day 2024 activities in presence of Surgeon Rear Admiral R Ravi, Command Medical Officer, HQENC. This initiative would enhance the lifestyle of Kidney failure patients by undergoing dialysis while at home in a self-aided way with reduced side effects of Hemodialysis. The unique initiative of Nephrology team at INHS Kalyani aims to provide PD to 25% patients on dialysis in the year 2025 by educating the patients, performing PD Catheter insertions and managing complications. In collaboration with other Armed Forces hospitals and healthcare centres, this programme has garnered support from esteemed national nephrology bodies including the Indian Society of Nephrology and Peritoneal Dialysis Society of #India. The establishment of Peritoneal dialysis at INHS Kalyani, Visakhapatnam, is a significant step towards addressing this issue and ensuring accessible healthcare solutions for affected individuals, as the Chronic Kidney Disease is a prevalent concern in coastal areas, particularly in #AndhraPradesh, Telangana, and Odisha, owing to environmental and tropical factors. As part of the programme, Surgeon Commander Vineet Behera, Nephrologist at INHS Kalyani, emphasised the advantages of PD over hemodialysis to the affected patients in order to minimise the need for hospital visits and consequent discomforts to them and allow the patients maintaining their daily routines and activities while on dialysis procedure at home. The Nausena Purab Peritoneal Dialysis Yojana symbolises Indian Navy’s commitment in providing quality healthcare and improving the lives of dialysis patients in the region. INHS Kalyani under the command of Surgeon Commodore Rohit Sharma, remains dedicated to serving the community and advancing medical excellence in the field of nephrology.
