Sea Survival Training for Observer Course

Sea survival training for Observer under trainee officers of the 89th Regular and 25th DOOFT courses was conducted off Kochi on 26 March 2019. The aim of the exercise was to provide a realistic exposure to the trainees and familiarise them with survival techniques at sea. 24 trainee officers and two instructors from Observer School and INAS 550 embarked INS Sharda, which acted as the consort ship. Aircraft ex-Garuda were also involved in the exercise undertaking SAR, thereby giving a real-world feel to the trainees. The activities conducted during the sea survival training included safe usage of survival equipment including flares, exposure to actual weather and sea conditions, conservation and regulated use of emergency rations, water and available resources onboard life raft and exercising Ground to Air Emergency codes for visual communication.
