World Hydrography Day

World Hydrography Day was observed at SNC on 21 June 2024 with this year's theme of 'Hydrographic Information – Enhancing Safety, Efficiency, and Sustainability in Marine Activities'. On this occasion, an outreach programme on the significance of Hydrography and its contributions was conducted by INS Sutlej at Sainik School Kazhakootam during the recent visit of ship to Vizhinjam. At Kochi, students from various schools including NCS visited Survey ships INS Jamuna and INS Sarvekshak. During the visit, they were briefed on various hydrographic efforts towards safety of mariners at sea. Demonstration of state of the art survey equipment and their application in hydrographic survey was also undertaken. The survey ships of Indian Navy have been actively involved in mapping the vast IOR including ports and off shore infrastructure. At National Institute of Hydrography NIH Goa inquisitive minds of Kendriya Vidyalaya and NCS Goa embarked on a learning journey where they witnessed live demonstrations of cutting-edge hydrographic equipment used for data collection and analysis. The students and teachers also stepped aboard a demo Survey Motor Boat, gaining first hand experience on survey operations. A short capsule on the latest advancements in the field of Hydrography was presented. From maritime navigation to coastal zone management, environmental protection to resource exploration, maritime boundary delineation to Maritime domain awareness, hydrography shapes our understanding of the oceans and empowers us to protect and harness their resources.
